Trading Introduction FAQ

WHAT IS TRADING OF SPORTS ISSUES?

Sports issues are simply stocks of sports teams (or players) tradable on a financial trading exchange.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADING AND INVESTING?

Very little actually but the general conception is that trading involves 'turning over' (buying and then selling) an asset in a short time period (typically one year or less) compared to investing which commonly implies holding on to an asset for a much longer period. By trading, you're still investing but likely in a shorter time frame.

WHY TRADE SPORTS ISSUES?

Sport trading is a desirable bridge between sports betting and the financial markets offering greater opportunities for investors to make secure income from their sports knowledge. It is also:

  • An investment avenue that is easy to learn and fun to be involved in

  • As exciting as gambling but with far lesser risk than gambling

  • A way to receive dividend income and profit from capital growth - unavailable in conventional sports betting

  • A time-efficient way to profit from sports with limited involvement as opposed to betting on sports events

  • Free of online gambling legal jurisdictions restrictions (e.g. Australia, U.S. etc)

HOW DOES TRADING OF SPORTS ISSUES WORK?

Traders buy and sell issues in real sports teams with real money on an exchange platform in real-time that is very similar to the real stock markets. Shareholders are also entitled to cash dividend payouts and other benefits for ownership in any sports issue (team or player).

DO I HAVE TO BE A FOLLOWER OF SPORTS TO TRADE SPORTS ISSUES?

Not really but you are up against people that do and this is to your disadvantage. Furthermore, sport has become an increasingly popular form of entertainment the world over in recent years and viewers are becoming progressively more knowledgeable about the teams and players they are watching.

Sports trading is a great and affordable way to get involved in sports for profit for the less sports-minded person with the advantage of being easier to make a profit over conventional sports betting on a longer term basis.

By investing in sports teams, you can follow their fortunes even in a semi-proactive manner; it's very similar to if you were an investor on Wall Street but without many of the complications of a major financial exchange (i.e. capital required, wider economic implications, time to absorb market-wide news and developments etc).

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO TRADE SPORTS ISSUES?

Sports trading is a fun way to develop many interests and skills in sports, trading, money management and general investment.

Ideally, you should already have some interest in sports and a basic understanding of money concepts but the relative simplicity of sports trading makes a terrific platform to learn and profit from many of the areas mentioned above.

WHAT CAN I TRADE IN?

Markets can vary on sports trading exchanges but typically you will find many major national leagues covered (NBA, MLB, NFL etc) as well as international markets covering football (soccer), motor racing, golf and tennis markets to name a few.

HOW COME I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE?

Trading in sports issues is a relatively new concept, first introduced by AllSportsMarket when online trading began in August 2004.

Sports' trading doesn't have the history like that of sports betting but given its initial popularity, many have already realised the advantages (cited above) of sports trading over sports betting and sports trading can only get bigger.

HOW DO I GET STARTED IN TRADING OF SPORTS ISSUES?

Visit AllSportsMarket to open a free account here and you may be able to claim a free $5 bonus (no deposit is necessary to claim your free $5 bonus!).

Once your account is active, you will get a better idea of the functionality of theASM trading exchange.
