- Moving Average: A common way to smooth data on a chart sourced from historical data. An average can then be found over a time period (e.g. 30 days; i.e. a 30 day moving average) and the result can be plotted. Essentially you are finding the average, historical stock price over a period of time. The most common types of moving averages are the simple moving average (SMA and the volume weighted average price (VWAP).
