About ProtradeProtrade is a next generation fantasy sports experience where a community of passionate sports fans trade players and teams like stocks. Protrade's dynamic, market-based content is syndicated to TV broadcasters and other sports media companies such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated. Protrade is licensed by the NFLPA, NBA, and MLBAM. Protrade was founded in 2004 by Mike Kerns.
Trading Markets (i.e. Leagues)Protrade is a player-only sports stockmarket. This means you can't actually invest in the teams directly but you can in the players that make up the listed teams on the Protrade exchange. The Protrade trading market is typically limited to major North American leagues such as:
Trading ActivityProtrade is very much aligned to fantasy sports although it does not work like a typical fantasy sports system. Player earnings are based on traditional statistics and mirrors most fantasy scoring systems. The player's price at the end of the season is equal to their accrued fantasy earnings for that season. Protrade sets a player's price equal to our fantasy projections for the upcoming season. For example, if Player X is projected to earn 142 fantasy points during the season, his price will be set to $142. Traders buy and sell player X through the season. Once the season ends (i.e. earnings day), Protrade sets players' prices equal to the number of fantasy points earned. For example, Player X's price is set to $12 as he earned only 12 fantasy points during the season. As a result of market efficiency, Player X's price was already trading at $12 in anticipation of earnings day. By setting the price equal to fantasy points earned, market prices are tied to a player's actual performance. Protrade provides tools like an auto-pick feature for
Trading StrategyHow are market prices set? Protrade sets the price of a player with a market IPO (i.e. initial public offering). Traders then create buy/sell pressure to drive players' stocks up or down. Once the season ends, Protrade then sets each player's price equal to the number of fantasy points he actually earned. The earnings day equalization from current price to fantasy earnings price should be close. You are able to create your own private challenge (as opposed to the public challenge opened to everyone). You get to set the rules (including the length of the challenge; i.e season) and you pick the positions that can be traded in your private challenge. In public challenges, Protrade vary the rules - some challenges allow any player from any sport to be traded while others might be pitchers or quarterbacks only, for example.
PrizesDepending on the challenge, you can compete for sports memorabilia, electronics, cash and more. All Prize Winners will be notified by email at the email address supplied to Protrade. Winners must claim merchandise prizes within 60 days of notification.
